This page is for adding a new group, or modifying the information of an existing group. Only an authorized member of your group should maintain this data.
Group Name - This is the name of your group. Please be specific. For example a “Secular Student Alliance” at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, should title their name “Secular Student Alliance – UNC-CH”. This will avoid confusion with other Secular Student Alliances in your area.
Location - This is the address location of your group. It can be as specific as a mailing address or as broad as a city.
Geocode - After saving your group information, this site will automatically geocode your location to a latitude and longitude point. This is necessary for users to find you. If it comes back as 0.0000000,0.0000000 then check how you format your address and try again.
Group Types - This site supports a series of group types (aka Tags). When a user signs up for New Group Alerts they will select these same tags when opting to be notified about new groups. You must select at least one group type.
IMPORTANT: Social contact fields are optional (Website, Facebook, Google Plus, Meetup, Myspace, Tumblr, Twitter, Yahoo, and YouTube), BUT you must provide at least 1 so that visitors can contact you.
Each social contact field that you fill in with the appropriate url will create a corresponding link in your group’s entry in this database.
Public Email - This is an email address where you want to receive emails from site visitors. Your email address is never exposed to visitors. They will use a contact form on this site. We will forward the message to you automatically. Site administrators do not monitor communications to groups from visitors.
Public Calendar - (Feature Not Yet Implemented) This is a web URL to a calendar in an ICAL format. This site will parse the information from groups in a given area together so that users can see a list of events occurring in their area.
Description - This is a brief description about your group. While there is no character limit to this, please be concise and direct.
Date Founded - This is an optional field where you can provide the date your group was founded. This site only supports specific dates. It is in Month, Date, Year Format.
Upload Image - This site supports group logos. Image sizes cannot exceed 1 Megabyte and will be automatically resized so that the longest dimension does not exceed 175 pixels. Please exercise common sense when uploading a logo. Images that depict explicit graphic content or copyrighted images used without permission may be removed without warning.
Status - This is the status of a group. Groups that are “Pending” are subject to moderator approval and will not appear in the directory listing. Groups that are “Inactive” will not show up in the directory because you have chosen to make it inactive. Groups that are “Active” will show up in the directory.
Remote Access Key - (Feature Not Yet Implemented) This 32 character long key will be used with forum and blog platforms to report back the number of members your group has. More information on this feature will be coming soon.
